You’ll also receive a custom-designed heirloom album filled with your favorite 60 photos—crafted with archival materials and made to last for generations. They even researched neat murals around the Milwaukee area in advance of our maternity shoot so we could have truly out-of-this-world shots near the Andromeda Galaxy mural! In this guide, we’re spilling our very best advice on how to successfully prepare for your maternity or newborn photo session. Advice on what to wear, how to personalize your images, and how to keep things relaxed and enjoyable. These tips and tricks come from over a decade of photographing maternity and newborn sessions all over Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin.
Our albums
Along with wall art, albums are one of our most popular ways to commemorate the first year your baby joins your family. When children see themselves in these albums, can they see how much they were loved - even before they were born.
In keeping with our desire to be kind to Mother Earth, our albums are printed by our lab partner that goes above and beyond in minimizing their footprint in all practices.

When should I schedule my maternity and/or newborn photo sessions?
Maternity photos typically take place between weeks 30-34 of your pregnancy. However, we believe there is no one-size-fits-all. Plan your session far enough before your due date that there isn’t a chance of baby coming early, but not too early that your bump isn’t plump yet. :)
If you’d like to work with us for your newborn session, we suggest that you make a deposit to book your session in advance - ideally before baby is born! Then after birth, just call or email us to schedule a day and time that works for you. Ideally, 5-14 days after birth is the optimal time for cute baby photos because that is when babies are the sleepiest and curled up into themselves. If you don’t get to it until after that date, don’t stress! We can still get wonderful photos of your little one!
What are the advantages of an in-home newborn photography session?
One advantage of in-home newborn sessions is that your infant is in their own environment. This means plenty of time for candid cuddles and feedings, and less overstimulation and distractions. It also allows us to capture some really beautiful moments like feedings and nursing, and some of your first memories together in your home!
In-home sessions also keep things more relaxed for toddler siblings who are adjusting to another little one in the home. Having their own toys and familiar things around means that we can get some of those genuine smiles and giggles! They can take play and snack breaks, and they don’t have to sit around waiting for their turn for posed photos. Additionally, if you have furry friends in your home who you’d like to include in a few lifestyle photos, they’ll feel safe and happy in their home with their people.
How do you approach maternity sessions?
Showing the connection between you and the life that is growing inside you while embarking on parenthood is what we’re looking to showcase at your session. When your child sees those baby bump photos years later, they feel that they were loved before they were ever born. We’re happy to talk with you about the style you’d like at your session, whether it’s focused solely on you or might include your partner and older child(ren). From majestic to casual, we love to give you a customized experience that will leave you feeling pampered.
We approach newborn sessions in the same fashion: with an eye toward connections and with a lifestyle approach. We like to focus on babies being babies! For newborn photos, we use safe, comfortable, and adorable poses that have a lot of heart, because we think the beauty lies in the connection between your new family. Showing those sweet little fingers and toes is part of it, but beyond that, we love the photos that tell an entire story in a glance.
